P2783 — Torque Converter Temperature Too High
The TCM detects that torque converter temperature exceeds the calibrated upper limit. Continuous slipping or insufficient cooling causes overheating and risks transmission damage.
General code reference. Confirm the definition and diagnostic procedure for your vehicle's year, model and engine. A stored code alone does not identify a failed part.
Affected components
- Torque converter
- Transmission cooler
- Transmission fluid
Possible causes to check
These are possible checks, not a ranked diagnosis. Follow the vehicle manufacturer's test procedure before replacing parts.
- Low transmission fluid level
- Blocked transmission cooler
- Excessive TCC slip
Diagnostic notes
- The malfunction indicator lamp may illuminate
- Reduced-power or limp mode may occur
