P2312 Powertrain

P2312 — Ignition Coil E Primary Control Circuit Low

The primary control circuit of ignition coil E reads a voltage below the expected level — usually a short to ground on the primary driver wire or a low-resistance fault in the coil primary winding. Coil E cannot build a normal charge, so the cylinder it fires misfires, especially under load. Causes: short to ground in the primary wiring, an internal coil primary fault, or a faulty ECU/igniter driver.

General code reference. Confirm the definition and diagnostic procedure for your vehicle's year, model and engine. A stored code alone does not identify a failed part.

Possible causes to check

These are possible checks, not a ranked diagnosis. Follow the vehicle manufacturer's test procedure before replacing parts.

  • Primary winding shorted to ground or harness chafed
  • Coil E internal driver fault
  • Connector oxidised or loose at coil E
