P0328 Powertrain

P0328 — Knock Sensor 1 Circuit High Input (Bank 1)

The knock sensor signal voltage is above the expected range. Often caused by a sensor producing excess output due to mechanical noise (loose mounting, accessory drive vibration) rather than a sensor fault.

General code reference. Confirm the definition and diagnostic procedure for your vehicle's year, model and engine. A stored code alone does not identify a failed part.

Affected components

  • Knock sensor
  • Knock sensor wiring

Possible causes to check

These are possible checks, not a ranked diagnosis. Follow the vehicle manufacturer's test procedure before replacing parts.

  • Mechanical noise picked up by sensor (loose accessory)
  • Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
  • Sensor failed

Possible symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Power loss from defensive spark retard
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Possible audible pinging under load

Diagnostic notes

  • The malfunction indicator lamp may illuminate
  • This code can affect emissions
  • A drive cycle may be required after repair
