P0086 — Exhaust Valve Control Solenoid Circuit High Bank 2
Exhaust valve solenoid bank 2 control voltage above expected range. Short to power or open ground. The exhaust control valve modulates exhaust backpressure or routing (EGR feed, sound, regen support); a malfunction shifts torque mapping and may trigger limp mode.
General code reference. Confirm the definition and diagnostic procedure for your vehicle's year, model and engine. A stored code alone does not identify a failed part.
Affected components
- Exhaust valve solenoid
- Solenoid wiring
Possible causes to check
These are possible checks, not a ranked diagnosis. Follow the vehicle manufacturer's test procedure before replacing parts.
- Wiring shorted to battery
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
- Supply wire pinched against B+ source
Diagnostic notes
- The malfunction indicator lamp may illuminate
- This code can affect emissions
- A drive cycle may be required after repair
